Public Highway / Street Art Mural

Throughout 2018 Urban Art Australia completed a number of large scale projects with organisations such as the RMS and local councils. With this particular project, we worked alongside the RMS as part of an anti-graffiti campaign. Our artists transformed a series of graffiti-stained panels alongside a highly popular roadway, into what is now one of the Illawarra’s main artistic highlights.

Along Memorial Drive, a main road of the Illawarra heading into Bulli, the highway is lined with sound barriers which had become a popular area for graffiti. In an effort to combat graffiti, the RMS wanted the panels to instead become a series of artworks, painted by local artists to represent the local area.

r artists worked alongside a local school (Woonona High) with students to come up with the design ideas. We worked collaboratively with local artist Warwick Keen to complete the project collectively painting 14 large murals.

This project was a great opportunity to provide the local area with some meaningful artwork with strong ties to the local Illawarra region. We are confident we have left behind artwork that resonates with all locals and travellers both young and old.
